The Times today reported that
Constable’s iconic ‘View on the Stour near Dedham’ has been X-Rayed in preparation for the Tate’s upcoming summer exhibition
‘Constable: The Great Landscapes’. Importantly, the X-Ray revealed that the artist originally included two boys fishing as well as a young girl by the water’s edge. The figures were later painted out and replaced by a pair of boys sitting by the water.
